Æstel
Æstel Herald is a deputy to Black Lion Principal Herald, responsible for the Kingdom's library of heraldry resources and assists in researching names and armory. Æstel is also responsible for setting up a consult tables at Crown Events: Crown events include 12th Night, May Crown, July Coronation, and September Crown. As the consulting and research assistant deputy Æstel may also receive requests to set up consult tables at regional events as possible and assist with consulting via email.
This is a rewarding customer service position and will require a good amount of interaction with the populace. This position places the office holder as a welcoming face for submitters and their experience with the An Tir College of Heralds.
Time requirement:
- 10-20 hours per event, depending on size of the event and availability of volunteers
- 5-10 hours per month, depending on quantity of emails received, library up keep, and other correspondence and reports as needed
This position requires:
- Trustworthiness with financial responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills, diplomacy, discretion
- Good overall customer service skills for interacting with submitters
- Ability to attend four major Crown events per year with Kingdom's library of resources and run consultation tables there, or have designated a reliable volunteer to provide that coverage
- Physical ability to lift and carry five bins weighing 50# or have reliable volunteers to transport them
- Ability to securely store and maintain said bins whether at home or at an event
- Consistent and reliable internet and computer access, including an internet browser
- Good research abilities
- Basic knowledge of how to research and conflict check names and devices for submitters (knowledge will be developed)
- Strongly recommended: Familiarity with Administrative Handbook, Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory (familiarity will be developed)
- Recommended, but not required: Familiarity with name pronunciation and style practices, artistic ability
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with event staff, Black Lion, and sometime Kingdom Chamberlain for space. Be aware that ultimately Æstel is responsible for set-up and tear-down of consulting space; including but not limited to the Æstel pavilion and tables
- Communicate with Black Lion and Lions Blood regarding the acceptance of submissions at consultation tables
- Work closely with Lions Blood and other consulting heralds to help clients create successful submissions
- Supervise, and support all volunteers at the consult table
- Participate in Kingdom College of Heralds financial committee
- Other duties and projects as assigned
